East Africa Together: A Family Safari
Journey Overview
Overview
Travelling as a family or a group changes what a good day looks like. Different ages have different energy, different attention spans and very different appetites for time in a vehicle, and the itinerary has to make room for all of it.
Family and group journeys are planned with shorter drives where they help, flexible start times, and days balanced around energy rather than a fixed schedule. Because the vehicle and the guide are yours alone, the group can split a day, cut a drive short or stay out longer without it affecting anyone else.
Bush Doctor Safaris is a licensed Kenyan operator and guiding is led by a KPSGA Silver Badge professional, which matters more than usual when younger travellers are involved. Good guiding is what turns a long drive into something children actually remember.

What Makes This Safari Special
Your Journey, Day by Day
Arrival in Nairobi
Arrive in Nairobi and settle in. Nothing is scheduled for the first day beyond meeting your guide, so that everyone can recover from the flight before the travelling starts.
Into the Maasai Mara
Travel to the Maasai Mara with stops along the way to break the drive. A short, easy first afternoon in the field, timed so nobody arrives at camp exhausted.
A full day, split as you like
A whole day in the reserve, planned so it can be broken up. An early drive, a return to camp through the middle of the day, then out again when the light softens and the animals become active.
A second Mara day
Another flexible day. Some of the group may want a long morning in the field while others stay closer to camp, which a private vehicle and guide make straightforward.
On to Amboseli
Continue to Amboseli, where the elephant families and the view towards Kilimanjaro are usually the highlight of a family trip. Head out again in the late afternoon.
A last morning, then Nairobi
An early drive before breakfast, then the return to Nairobi for onward travel, or a connecting flight to the coast for a few days by the sea.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a minimum age?
Age policies vary by camp and by activity, and some walking and trekking activities have their own limits. We check the rules for every property and activity in your itinerary and confirm them before anything is booked.
Can we get connecting or family rooms?
Many properties offer family rooms or adjoining options, but availability is limited and they book out early. Tell us the ages and how you would like the group split, and we will work with it from the start.
How long are the drives?
That depends on the route, and it is one of the first things we design around. Where a transfer would be too long for the group, we will either break it up or suggest a short internal flight instead.
Do we need more than one vehicle?
A single private vehicle comfortably takes most families. Larger groups may need a second, which we will quote separately rather than crowd everyone into one.
Will older travellers be comfortable?
Yes, with some care in the planning. Shorter drives, accommodation with easier access and a gentler daily rhythm all make a real difference, and we will build the itinerary around whoever needs it most.
Will children be bored between sightings?
Good guiding is what prevents it. Tracks, birds, insects and the small details of the bush hold attention far better than waiting for the next big animal, and that is a large part of what your guide is there for.
