Journey Overview

Overview

A tailor-made journey begins with a conversation rather than a brochure. Before any route is drawn, we want to understand how you like to travel — whether you prefer long, unhurried mornings in the field or full days on the move, whether you are drawn to wildlife, landscape or culture, and who is travelling with you.

From there the itinerary is built around you: the destinations, the order you visit them, the style and standard of accommodation, the length of each stay and the pace of each day. Because every journey is privately guided, nothing is tied to a group schedule. If a sighting is worth staying with, you stay with it.

Bush Doctor Safaris is a licensed Kenyan operator and your time in the field is led by a KPSGA Silver Badge professional guide. The journey outlined below is one way a tailor-made itinerary can unfold — every part of it can be reshaped around your dates, your interests and your pace.

Itinerary

Your Journey, Day by Day

Day 01

Arrival in Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi, where you are met and taken to your accommodation. An evening briefing walks through the shape of the days ahead and gives you the chance to adjust anything before the journey begins.

Day 02

Into the Maasai Mara

Travel south-west to the Maasai Mara, watching the highlands give way to open grassland. Settle in, then head out for a first afternoon in the field to get your bearings and find the rhythm of the reserve.

Day 03

A full day in the Mara, shaped around you

The whole day is yours to shape. An early start for soft morning light, a long stay with a single sighting, time with a Maasai community, or a slower morning followed by an afternoon drive. Nothing is fixed in advance.

Day 04

Onward to Amboseli

Continue to Amboseli, known for its elephant families and, on clear days, views towards Kilimanjaro. The afternoon is spent in the park, with the route decided on the day rather than the week before.

Day 05

Amboseli at your own pace

Another flexible day. Spend it near the swamps where the elephants gather, explore the wider plains, or take the morning slowly and return to the field later in the afternoon.

Day 06

Return to Nairobi, or continue

Return to Nairobi for onward travel, or extend the journey into Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda or the coast. Many guests add a few days by the Indian Ocean before flying home.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What does tailor-made actually mean?

It means the itinerary is written for your trip alone. The destinations, the order you visit them, how long you stay in each place, the style of accommodation and the pace of each day are all decided with you rather than taken from a fixed programme.

How far ahead should I start planning?

The earlier the better, particularly for busy travel periods or if you have a specific camp or a particular season in mind. Shorter lead times can often still be worked with, so it is always worth asking.

Can I combine more than one country?

Yes. Journeys can move between Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Zanzibar. We will advise on realistic travel times and border crossings so the route does not become tiring.

Will I be travelling with other guests?

No. Journeys are private. The vehicle and the guide are yours alone, which is what makes the flexible daily pace possible.

Can the itinerary change while I am there?

Within reason, yes. Days are deliberately left flexible so you can stay longer with a sighting, slow a morning down or change plans if the weather turns. Anything involving a booked flight or a change of lodge is handled case by case.

How do I get a price?

Send us your approximate dates, the number of travellers and an idea of the experience you are after. We will come back with a proposed itinerary and a full costing.
