Journey Overview

Overview

A safari makes a particularly good honeymoon because so little of it is shared with anyone else. The days are unhurried, the evenings are quiet, and the two of you travel with your own guide and vehicle rather than as part of a group.

Romantic journeys lean towards smaller camps, later starts where you want them, and settings worth lingering in: a sundowner on a ridge, a slow breakfast after a morning drive, an evening with nothing at all scheduled. Where it suits you, a few days of wildlife can be followed by time on the Indian Ocean coast for a gentler ending.

Tell us what you are celebrating and we will build the details around it. Particular arrangements — a private dinner, a quiet spot for a certain evening — are made directly with your camps once the itinerary is confirmed.

Itinerary

Your Journey, Day by Day

Day 01

Arrival in Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to your accommodation. Nothing is scheduled for the first evening beyond a short conversation about the days ahead.

Day 02

Into the Maasai Mara

Travel to the Maasai Mara and settle into camp. A gentle first afternoon in the field, finishing with a sundowner somewhere with a long view.

Day 03

A day at your own pace

The day is entirely yours. An early drive and a slow afternoon, a late start and a long evening in the field, or a morning spent doing very little at all.

Day 04

A second Mara day

Another unhurried day, planned on the morning itself. This is usually the day guests ask for a private breakfast out on the plains or a particular spot for the evening.

Day 05

To the Indian Ocean

Fly to Zanzibar or the Kenyan coast for the second half of the journey. The change of pace is immediate: warm water, slow days and nothing to be up for.

Day 06

Time by the sea

A free day on the coast. Stone Town, the reef, a dhow at sunset, or simply the beach, depending on how much you feel like doing.

Day 07

Departure

A final slow morning by the sea before your onward flight home.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a safari a good choice for a honeymoon?

It suits couples who want privacy and a change of scene rather than a resort. Because the vehicle and the guide are yours alone, the days are quiet and flexible in a way that group travel rarely allows.

Can we combine safari and beach?

Yes, and most couples do. A few days in the bush followed by time in Zanzibar or on the Kenyan coast is the most popular shape for these journeys.

How private is it, really?

Your vehicle, your guide and your daily plan are yours alone. Camps and lodges are shared with other guests, but smaller properties can be chosen where privacy matters most.

Can you arrange something for a special occasion?

We can pass your plans to the camps and lodges in advance. What is possible depends on the property, and anything they charge separately is settled with them, but it is always worth telling us early.

How long should we allow?

Around a week is comfortable for a safari and beach combination. Shorter trips work best focused on one area rather than trying to include both.

When should we travel?

It depends on your dates more than anything. We will look at the inland and coastal seasons together and suggest the best split between bush and beach for the time of year you are travelling.
